Portrait of Finn
Character Profile

Finn

Age 24. Merhaven's fisherman and sailing instructor. Finn never really left — he took over his father's boat and now runs the sailing club through the summers. He kept the night watch over the lighthouse during the 250th, and when the storm rolled in, he was the one out on the harbour helping guide a stricken yacht home. The sea is still his life, and the Wanderlight is still his landmark.

Favourite Things

His father's fishing boat
He took it over when his dad retired. He knows every cove and current along the Merhaven coast — and every safe anchorage.
The harbour breakwater
His favourite spot to watch the boats come in — and to keep an eye on the lighthouse from across the bay.
The night watch
During the 250th he organised the fishermen's rota — six men, all night, every night, keeping watch over the lighthouse.
Fish and chips on the quay
After a day on the water or a long week of the 250th, nothing beats hot chips from the harbour van.

Skills

Sailing
He can handle a boat in almost any weather. When the storm hit during the 250th, he was out on the harbour helping bring a stricken yacht home.
Keeping watch
He organised the night watch over the lighthouse — the same watchfulness he learned the night he spotted the break-in at fourteen.
Bravery
When the storm put the yacht in danger, Finn didn't hesitate. The lighthouse guided it home — and Finn was there to meet it.
Loyalty
He's the one who never left. The harbour is his life, and the lighthouse is his landmark, and he'll keep both as long as he's able.
"You don't catch fish by waiting on the harbour. You catch them by going out and looking."
— Finn
